Report Styles

White paper

A white paper is a custom report on a mutually agreed-upon topic that explores a technology, technique or trend. Similar to a Thought Leadership report, but for a single sponsor, a white paper is written in an expository format that defines the topic and examines the drivers, benefits, challenges, and use cases. It usually presents a framework to help readers better understand the topic and its key components.

Best Practices Report

A Best Practices report examines user adoption of a new technology, technique, or trend and best practices for implementing it. The report interviews industry practitioners with first-hand experience using the technology or technique. The report synthesizes the lessons learned by these practitioners and presents six to ten best practices that can be gleaned from their experience. The report complements the “Thought Leadership” report, providing “color commentary” that brings the topic to life with real customer experiences.

  • Describes 6-10 best practices gleaned from interviews with practitioners in the field.

Tech Opportunity Brief

The Tech Opportunity Brief boils the business essence of the thought leadership report into a gated, short-form asset of about 1,000 words (10 paragraphs). It examines a technology in the data analytics field and assesses the opportunity it presents to enterprise data leaders.

The brief defines the technology in layman’s terms, why enterprises might want to adopt it, and what use cases it supports. It then recommends ways for leaders to address key challenges and capitalize on the opportunity. Busy readers can digest all this with intuitive formatting, graphics, and call-out boxes.

The Tech Value Brief is available as a standalone asset or optional add-on to a full thought leadership report. Sponsors can purchase it for either scheduled or custom reports. Exclusive sponsorship available for most topics.

Checklist Report

A checklist report enumerates practical considerations for implementing a specific technology or technique in a checklist format. The checklist items can be best practices, key challenges, pitfalls to avoid, or key considerations when selecting or implementing a product. Most checklist reports consist of six to eight items of 300-350 words each with an introduction that provides context for  the topic.

  • Enumerates 6-8 practical considerations for implementing a technology or technique.

Ecosystem Report

An Ecosystem Report shows how complementary (i.e. partner) products can support a comprehensive solution that addresses an area of business pain. The report can either describe a technology framework that supports the solution or profile individual products within the framework. The former is a traditional white paper that educates readers about the solutions space, while the latter is a product piece that profiles three products individually, sandwiched between an introduction and conclusion. Each sponsor receives a custom version of the report with the introduction and their profile.

  • Examines how partner products work together in a solutions space

Customer Evaluation Report

A Customer Testimonial Report profiles three customers and how a sponsor’s technology has transformed their organizations. An introduction explores the common themes among customer experiences and highlights product differentiators that create breakthrough performance. This report is a great way to leverage customers who deliver keynotes at an annual user conference because it promotes their stories to a wider audience and long after the conference ends. It also greatly expedites the process since the customers are already approved to speak publicly about their experiences.

  • A great way to leverage customer keynotes at annual user conferences.

  • Explores the positive impact customers experienced when implementing sponsor product(s).

Before & After Report

A Before & After report uses a fictional or true scenario to describe a customer’s process before and after the customer has implemented the sponsor’s product. The “before” and “after” story highlights differences in time, cost, quality, and other characteristics that describe the product’s value proposition. The scenarios are based on personas that readers can relate to. Focusing scenarios on people and their experiences drives home a product’s value proposition and makes for an engaging read.

  • “Before” and “after” scenarios of how a sponsor’s product impacts customer’s ROI

Product Profile Report

A product profile complements a report or white paper. This three- to five-page report uses text and screenshots to describe the key benefits and features of a sponsor’s product. The reports typically provide a short company overview and then highlight the six to 12 features that distinguish the product from its competitors,

  • Profiles the key differentiators of a vendor product through text and screenshots

  • A good complement to a report or white paper
